FAQs

How does the micro-TESE work?

We carry out the micro-TESE in our outpatient clinic. The duration of the surgery is usually between 1.5 and 3 hours depending on the intraoperative findings.

After the surgery you stay in one of our postoperative single rooms. Each postoperative single room has a window providing light and fresh air.

After about 4 hours after the surgery you can leave our clinic.

Please note that you are not allowed to actively participate in traffic within 24 hours of anesthesia and you should stay in the company of an adult.

Will I have severe pain after the surgery?

We carry out the surgery under general anesthesia. You will have no pain during the surgery. After the surgery, an uncomfortable feeling and pressure in the operating area, especially when walking or during physical exertion, are possible. Severe pain is not expected after this surgery. The symptoms can be alleviated by resting, cooling the scrotum and occasionally pain killers.

What do I have to consider after the surgery?

After the surgery, you will be on sick leave for a week. You should avoid heavy physical exertion or sports activities within 4 weeks after the surgery. 1-2 days after the surgery, we would like to see you in our clinic for a control.

What do I have to consider before the surgery?

You should avoid eating, drinking and smoking at least 8 hours before the surgery.

Sexual abstinence is not necessary.

You should shave in the genital area (Bermuda shorts) at home before the surgery.

Sperm were found in my testicular tissue. What are the next steps?

The testicular tissue samples are cut into small pieces, each peace is individually frozen at -197 ° C  in liquid nitrogen (cryopreserved) and stored in straws. According to current knowledge, the testicular tissue can be stored cryopreserved for many years. For artificial fertilization (ICSI), a straw is thawed, sperm is isolated from the tissue and used to fertilize the egg cells obtained by the puncture of the woman's ovaries.

We would be happy to help you organize the transport from cryopreserved testicular tissue to the fertility center that is treating you.

Sperm were not found in my testicular tissue. What are the next steps?

Unfortunately, sperm cells cannot be always found in the testicular tissue using a micro-TESE. In such a case, it is not possible to fulfill the desire to have your biological children. You can become a father with a sperm donation.
